Shoulder & Upper Arm Pain
Is Your Pain Actually Coming From Your Neck?
If you point to pain between your shoulder blades, along the upper back, or anywhere between the shoulder joint and the base of your skull, there is a good chance your symptoms originate from the cervical spine rather than the shoulder itself. If so, click here on Neck Pain. (Web designer: link this sentence to the Neck Pain section.) If the area of your pain is along the top of the shoulder and/or the upper arm (but not below the elbow), see below:

Upper Arm Pain
Pain between the shoulder and elbow can result from:
-
- Tight muscles (Myofascial Trigger Points)
- Pinched nerves
- Referred pain in the neck, shoulder, or elbow. Referred pain occurs when discomfort is felt in one area even though the source is located elsewhere.
- Myofascial trigger points and nerve entrapments are common causes.
