Diagnostic / Therapeutic Injections

Some people have complex, multifactorial conditions that make it challenging for even expert clinicians to pinpoint the exact source of pain – despite a detailed history, thorough physical exam, and appropriate imaging or tests. A diagnostic/therapeutic injection is an image-guided, targeted injection of medication—usually a local anesthetic, sometimes combined with a steroid—into a specific region (joint, tendon, and even adjacent to irritated or entrapped nerves…) that can be very helpful in teasing out the cause(s).
